| Personal Web Site Content Policy |
| Policy Pittsburgh Technical Institute recognizes the value of publishing on the Internet and supports faculty, staff, and students in creating personal or curricular Web pages. Furthermore, PTI encourages students and employees to create personal web presences by providing web space for students and employees to house their personal web sites. When considering what to place on a personal website housed at the school, keep in mind the policies maintained by PTI for both Students and Employees. Authors agree to these guidelines/policies when they open their accounts.
Procedure Content Considerations Because writing for the Web is equivalent to creating a publication potentially available for the world to see, it is important that the material be accurate, up-to-date, grammatically correct, and free of spelling errors. Web page authors also need to familiarize themselves with legal issues that relate to the Web, and avoid unlawful or inappropriate activities, such as (but not limited to): · Copyright and licensing violations. · Vandalism and mischief that incapacitates, compromises, or destroys Institute resources and/or violates federal or state laws. · Posting of private or confidential information (e.g., student records or addresses. See FERPA policy for more information at http://ferpa.sis.usmd.edu/ferpaweb/) · Dissemination of obscene, harassing, threatening, or unwelcome communications. · Slander or Libelous activities. · Anything in violation of the Child Online Protection Act. Usage Considerations Students and Employees receiving web space should be aware of the following restrictions and limitations: · Space on the PTI Web Server is available to current students, current employees of PTI. · Sites are housed on Microsoft based servers and users may code their sites in either ASP or HTML. · Sites are limited to 10 Megabytes of space for staff and faculty and 5 Megabytes for students, to include all images and content pages. · Sites are not backed up. Users are responsible for the protection of their own data. · PTI reserves the right to limit bandwidth available to personal sites. · Pittsburgh Technical Institute reserves the right to take away space at any time. · The web server space is experimental and should not be relied on. · Material housed on PTI servers may be utilized by PTI in promotional activities. · All information and content placed on PTI server, will become the property of Pittsburgh Technical Institute. · Personal web sites will have URLs in the following format: (http://www.thewebdrive.com/username). · Getting web space is a privlege and can be taken away without notice. · The main page for your web site must be named index.html (.asp) or default.html (.asp). · Sites will be uploaded via the FTP protocol, from any web page editor (Must be on campus). Pittsburgh Technical Institute reserves the right to delete the account and/or web site of any Student or Employee if their Web site housed on PTI servers violates this or other PTI policies or practices. In addition, disciplinary action may be applicable under other PTI policies, guidelines, implementing procedures, or collective bargaining agreements. |
