These instructions will help you set up Macromedia Dreamweaver for editing
your web page/site. Please make a note that you can only edit
web pages on the PTI campus, however they can be viewed on the
internet using the proper URL (www.thewebdrive.com/username).
Please make backups of your work, PTI is not responsible for work
that is lost. Also be aware this server is experimental
and should not be used for class work.
| Step 1. |
Create a new folder in your
'U Drive' called 'webdrive'. (This is for a local copy of your work) |
| Step 2. |
Open Dreamweaver. If you can
not find the icon, navigate to c:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
4 folder and double click dreamweaver.exe. |
| Step 3. |
After opening Dreamweaver you will need to setup a site. Navigate
to the file menu (top bar) and click on [site] to reveal the context
menu see picture below.

Click the [New Site] menu item. This will bring the site definition
dialog box on the screen. See picture below.

| Step 5. |
Under the [Local Info] menu
item. Configure the [Site Name] to 'webdrive'. This is only locally
significant and is just a name so you could manage many sites. |
| Step 6. |
Under the [Local Info] menu
item. Configure the [Local Root Folder] to the folder you created
in Step 1 (u:\webdrive). This is a local folder for editing your site,
then you will 'put' the files to the server via FTP. Please consult
the documentation for Dreamweaver for more information. |
| Step 7. |
Under the [Local Info] menu
item. Configure the [HTTP Address] to 'http://www.thewebdrive.com/username'
Username being your username. This is for viewing your site through
Dreamweaver. |
| Step 8. |
Click the [Remote Info] menu item on the left pane. This will
help you setup the remote server to 'put' the files to. See picture
below.

Under the [Remote Info] menu
item. Click the [Access] drop down box and select 'FTP'. |
| Step 10. |
Under the [Remote Info] menu
item. Configure the [FTP Host] for 'ftp.thewebdrive.com'. |

Under the [Remote Info] menu
item. Configure the [Login] with 'pti_domain\username', username
being your PTI username. |
| Step 12. |
Under the [Remote Info] menu
item. Configure the [Password] with your PTI password. |
| Step 13. |
Click the [OK] box on the
bottom. |

Start editing your web page.
