Aeon Flux - Movie Review

Was it any good? Find out what our movie experts thought.

REVIEWED BY ERIC The sky is blue, the grass is green, the utopian city is bustling. Suddenly, you realize the woman in red who was next to you has gone missing. As curious and confused as you may be, you take it with a grain of salt, as this has been happening a lot these days. Welcome to the city of Bregna.

The movie features an interesting plot, even if it does really focus on just two characters. Aeon Flux and Chairman Goodchild are two extremists on both sides of the coin. Flux is the assassin assigned to terminate Goodchild. Flux is near to completing her mission when the two main characters' paths cross in strange ways.

Several gunshots and special effects later, a mysterious plot is woven. Although, several controversial points which I would have liked to see developed were rather quickly abandoned.

While the action scenes were interesting, the way they were filmed became irritating. Some would call them "innovation," but I felt that the abnormally quick camera cuts made some parts difficult to follow. The only real thing that made the fights important was their outcomes.

Aeon Flux isn't for everyone, but it would make a gratifying, if frustrating, experience for most. Perhaps one who was a fan of the original MTV cartoon would have a greater appreciation for the movie, but I don't feel that sci-fi/action films should have required reading. I cannot ignore the fact that the movie was indeed fun to watch.

4 out of 5 Geese.

An action packed movie, Aeon Flux is quite entertaining! However, I felt as though something was lacking in explanation, and felt that this was due to the fact that I did not watch the animated series first. This is NOT a good idea. The movie is awesome, and there are some kick butt special effects, such as the metal disks forming into balls and blowing up Aeon’s personal exit. Mad amusing. The movie depicted very well how people were trained to use their bodies in ways we would deem impossible, and the story line was consistent, which is always a plus. All in all, Aeon Flux was an awesome movie that everyone should have the chance to see – after watching the animated series. 4 out of 5 Geese

The future may be in Flux, but the quality of the movie is not. Veterans of the Aeon Flux series will be delighted to find that many elements of the cartoons were taken into consideration when filming, such as the acrobatics and "in your face" casual horror.

The movie is set nearly five hundred years into the future, after the Industrial Virus has wiped out 99% of the world's population. Mankind now lives in Monica, a city created by the Goodchild dynasty, creators of the cure for the Industrial virus.

Not all are happy living in this utopia, however, as people seem to disappear mysteriously, and are never heard from again. There are those that wish to sever the Goodchild bloodline--with a bullet.

Enter Charlize Theron as the beautiful and venomous Aeon Flux, the assassin that never fails. The movie takes a dramatic turn, however, when Aeon confronts Goodchild--and can't pull the trigger.
